Blanket Chest

$1,150 (total cost including instruction and materials)

Description:

A home for your blankets.

We’ll take five days to build this traditional chest with contemporary details.  Students will start with a kit of cherry parts, all cut to size (meaning there’s no milling in this class).  We’ll proceed towards benchwork and the hand details that make the piece. All hand-cut dovetails throughout the case, this chest will challenge student’s skills with the saw and chisel.

Though primarily a bench work class, there will be machine work during the week.  We’ll cut the top to fit, route the lid recess, and machine the base details.

The base detailing are optional, meaning this could be a more traditional design without the feet cut-out and the added molding piece wrapping the lower case – simply the box shape. Students can opt for the more traditional (and less work) option if they prefer.  Strap hinges hold the lid to the case.

Sharp chisels and planes are a must.  While no expert knowledge is necessary, being able to comfortably use your tools would be helpful for this class.

A fully catered lunch is included and served every day and drinks and snacks are provided all day. Please let us know in advance of any special dietary needs. It is a good idea to make your lodging reservations well in advance.
